Not only a technical day took place on Saturday 17th October at World Graphic Machine’s showroom. WGM is an Italian leading company in dealing with used printing equipment Heidelberg & Polar of the last technology.

The purpose of this event was to analyse past changes that occured to the graphic industry and, above all, to cast these arguments into the future in order that they will not be only theories, but a concrete help to printers who fight every day in their companies.

During the day many important and well-known speakers followed one another, such as Mr. David Serenelli, the vice-president of TAGA Italy, the association that WGM is sponsoring since many years. In his speech, Mr. Serenelli analysed the differences between offset and digital printing, highlighting then a perfect interconnection between both processes. For instance, digital printings can be completed with personal inserts that allow this way to create targeted marketing campaigns.

Then there was the turn of Mr. Alessandro Beltrami, consultant for colour and printing quality, who described the different automatic quality control systems applied to the latest offset printing machines, analysing advantages and disadvantages. In this case it has emerged that the standards are not so clear as Europe and Unites States use different criteria: this enables some manufacturers to use out-of-date and unestablished standards. Among the big manufacturers, once more Heidelberg is the leader for quality and efficiency. A big praise goes to the system of TWS company (a partner of the day) that is applied to remote controls as retrofit even to Heidelberg machines without CP2000 technology . Very important is the possibility to re-use the system with new machines in case of renewal of the printing equipment.

Last but not least was the speech of Mr. Valter Patrignani, who expounded the analysis of costs comparing the purchase between new and a second hand machinery. Machines of the last technology that have been carefully selected in the market by professional and skilful suppliers, with low impressions and the right maintenance, are as much productive as new machines with the same equipment.. The event described is an actual fact that can be verified. Savings you can have by buying a second hand machine with those features are up to 50% in comparison with new and discounted equipment. As a consequence you will have much lower operating costs (of course preserving the same productivity), allowing this way a positive result on company management.

During the day, we spoke also about the latest tax reliefs established by Berlusconi government, but “according our point of you, analyzing the situation of the printing companies involved with us, this manoeuvring is negative because it forces the companies to delay the purchase and abandon all the necessary investments for their survival. Indeed, the primary condition to use the possibility of deducting the 50% of the cost for the purchase is that the machinery has to be new. We have showm our disappointment to the Minister for Economic Development Mr. Scajola m.p. with many letters when he presented the bill before Parliament, so there would have been the time to make some changes; then his secretary recognized the validity of our comments and proposed to move an amendment to the bill with the necessary changes. But, with deep regret, we can affirm we have fought in vain and we believe that a good opportunity for the renewal of our sector has been lost.” This is the comment of Mr. Mauro Beghetto, WGM’s director.

“All the topics we have faced have been very interesting for all the present, and some customers have underlined the need to analyse them thoroughly in private. Certainly, the perfect result of our event is reason of pride, then considering that in this hard period only few companies are able to move assets and people in order to help the economic recovery” Mr. Alberto Rui, WGM’s marketing manager, explains.

During the show, we have settled the order of a wonderful HEIDELBERG CD 102-5 from Reggiani Group, as a demonstration that many customers can turn their attention to excellent second hand machinery, even though they used to buy new machines and although investment incentive for new equipment. As a result, it can be stated that it has been a big event that was promoted by a dynamic and leading company, which is going to become even more important in the near future.
